~ HALLOWEEN ANTIQUES ~

Well it's that time again with Halloween just around the corner to share with you all our collection of antique and vintage Halloween collectibles.
Here is a antique postcard that is mechanical that dates from 1910. The little guys arm moves up and down to cover his face with the pumpkin. Ray had bought me the little nut cups that came in a set of six for Christmas a couple of years ago. They are probably from the 50s or 60s.

This little WITCH sits on top of a china hutch watching over our or her collection of Halloween goodies.

Here is a shot of the whole collection in our TV room. That way we get to see all the goodies as we are watching scary movies. LOl.

This orange book dates from the 20's and the photo shows a young party goer showing off her costume.

All theses pumpkins are from the 30's 40's and 50's. The crape paper hats were a cool find also they date from the 20's or 30's

This vintage hand sewn child's costume was found at a antique store in Orange Co. We just stuffed it up with some tissue paper to fatten him out. ~ Getting Ready For Fall ~

Hello friends, It's time we put away our summer display an start thinking about Fall. I have already noticed some of the local trees around us losing their leaves. We have missed everyone while we were away in the garden this past Spring and Summer we where working hard trying to beat the 104 degree temp, and enjoying the pleasures of gardening. I have read and seen a few of our friends blogs and on Facebook posting pictures of their Fall decorating ideals. So Raymond and I decided to decorate the mantle in the ladies hat room.
I pulled out the decorations from the cabinet and Raymond did all the decorating. He always does a great job on the vignettes. I help a little he just goes over what I do. lol

Raymond has these vintage ceramic pheasants that him and his mother found on a shopping trip they did together many years ago which go well with Fall decor. Do you rember those I think growing up ever house had a pair or at least my famliy did. We found this gourd at a local garage sale here in town.

Fall seems to hits So Cal a little later for us out here. But it has been fun bring out everything and get started on decorating.

I was able to find some pomegranates on an old abandoned tree in a field not far from our home. So I picked some for the display. I bet once a house sat there on the land and kids would pick them daily.

This American clock in the center of the mantle we found at a auction in Redlands a couple of years ago. It dates from about 1830's to about 1850's. I like the American eagle on the top of the clock. That is the main reason I purchased it and it still works.

~ BEACH DAYS ~

I know it has been a while since our last visit with you all. But it has been busy in the garden and Summer seems to take all my time in the mornings. With all this heat we been having this Summer we decided it was time to bring out our vintage and antique beach related items and make a couple vignettes to share with all of you.

Here the bears are enjoying the vintage and antique sand pails that we found at a couple shops here in So Cal. One of them are from the 20s 40s and the 50s or 60s.

Here are a couple of antique postcards depicting ocean scenes. I like the one with the monkeys at the beach with there Victorian swim suits. They are too cute.

Here is a Victorian puzzle with a little girl at the beach with her best friend enjoying playing in the sand.

This pail is from the 1920s or 30s. It shows theses two children catching a starfish with there net. We used Spanish moss that we brought back from South Carolina as sea weed or did we buy it here in town wink wink? For the vignettes since the real thing will dry up quick and make a slimy mess. lol

In this pic we have this chalk ware mermaid from the 1920's which was a carnival prize that someone probably won at a country fair or maybe at the boardwalk?

Here is a little vignette with a child's plate with a couple little sailors from the late Victorian period. On the right side is an old ship book stand to keep books in place.

~4TH Of July Red White & Blue ~

Well it's back to work today and we wanted to share with you all our 4TH of July vignettes that Raymond had worked on this Sunday after we had gone to church. We have displayed all our collection of bears and antique red white and blue collection for this special holiday coming up. The small umbrella was a great find this Saturday at one of our favorite shops called Down Home Antiques in Orange Co.

These drums were a Christmas gift I bought for Ray a couple of years ago.

You can see this child's book with Uncle Sam on the cover which looks great with the other items in our collection.

This is the second vignette we had set up in another part of the house.

The bear was also a find this Saturday in Orange. He used to be a little pull toy and he is on wooden wheels.

This is a fun antique postcard with his guy dressed as Uncle Sam playing a banjo. It is from about 1905-1910.

This is Uncle Sam riding a bicycle which I found here in town at another favorite shop. The little fir cracker used to hold candy for children's as a party favour.

This antique cabinet photo above is fun it shows children dressed up for a 4Th of July pageant as Uncle Sam and Columbus and the statue of liberty.

We also placed some vintage parade flags and some scarfs to decorate the mantle.

This cigar is a cool little find with the colors of the flag also.

~ New Garden Treasure ~

We have decided to take a break away from the garden being that it was our anniversary and the Rose Bowl flea market was happening last Sunday. So we headed down there at five in the morning to find a treasure for our home. We had gone up and down the many allies of vendors and had seen a lot of goodies. But nothing really stood out there.

Being that we were already in Pasadena we decided to browse the local shops that might be open on a Sunday. We had came across this marble statue where she was sitting in the garden area of the shop. She is a 19TH century hand carved statue with the artist signature and most likely carved in Italy. There is a little butterfly sitting on her arm but the wings are missing so now it looks like a little Caterpillar and she also has a boo boo on her little leg.

Ray decided to give her a home in our back garden in the circular flower bed. She seems to be happy in her new home along with the other garden antiques out there.

The hydrangeas have given us many blooms this Spring and lets us know that Summer is at our front door with all the colorful blooms. This is Ray's favorite the white hydrangea below. He is always reminding me to give her an extra drink of water lol. And the pinks ones look nice in front of this antique urn.

In the area where we live they can be a challenge to grow with our heat but they look like they are doing just fine. This year I have learned to start putting leaves around the base to keep the roots cool.

~ Our Get away From Work ~

Well here we are, still relaxing in our back garden with Summer about to begin . The roses and some of the other blooms will start to slow down once the summer heat starts. This is the reason why we have not been posting for a while. We just wanted to enjoy what mother nature has given us for a bit. This is the back side garden with a view of the wall, notice our little bird feeder hanging from the tree. We really enjoy watching all our little friends eating from their feeders, Hummbirds, Oriole's, Bluebirds, Yellow Finch's, Bluejay's ect...

We love to use vintage an antique garden ornaments through out the garden. Such as the birdbaths and cast iron garden urns, we have purchased through the years on our weekend trips. And our yearly trips to South Carolina too see Raymond's mother & father.

This is another section of the back garden where we planted some Texas privet to divide the back yard to create another garden room.

This bed is our newest bed garden, it has been planted with some roses, lavender, lambs ear and some acanthus. And we moved our front birdbath to this area. since we are currently remodeling the front garden and adding a court yard with a wonderful vintage fountain.

The Queen's Anne lace really took off and I had to thin some of it out because it took over some of the roses along the wall.

This urn was found at the Long Beach flea market two years ago and the price was too steal and we just couldn't pass it up.

This side of the wall garden hasn't really bloomed yet, but it is the last place where the sun shines during the later part of the day. Thanks for stopping by our garden and staying a while. Hi there friends just wanted to say we are still around and apologize for being away for a while. I hope you all had a wonder full Mother's Day this past Sunday. But we are just taking a short break to smell all the roses and the other Spring flowers in the garden and enjoy the work we have done throughout the year.
