PANSY YARDLONG

In January we went to Palm Springs for Raymond's birthday. And did a little antique shopping around town and this is one of the treasures we came across. We luv to eat at a great restaurant out there for some tasty steak and lobster.

It is a yard long pansy oil on canvas painting and it was a really good price also. It is probably late 19TH century and painted by some lady on a sunny Sunday afternoon. I've heard dealers use the word Sunday paintings but who knows we just liked it and could not pass it up. So the saying goes LOL

My phone seem's not to have captured the great colors of the flowers or maybe it is just the lighting.

I always seem to say one more painting for our collection but it just grows and grows. In an older post there is photo of some of the other pansy paintings in our collection. I hope you enjoyed seeing our newest find. Thank You so much for stopping by and have a great week........Julian & Ray

  2. Hi Julian,
Those pansies are just lovely, they are one of my favourite flowers, lots of little faces looking up at you. In the UK violas are also known as 'Johnny Jump Ups' as they all try to get your attention.
Lobster, mmmm.... last time I had some was after a pre dawn trip with my son to Billingsgate fish market in the East End of London. Delicious.
    Hugs Angela.

  5. The neat thing about buying something while out for a special occasion is that every time you look at it you are reminded of the time you were blessed to spend with the ones you love!

  35. Hi again, does anyone know where I can find a victorian pansy by the yard?? I sent a message on 5/15 but haven't heard back as of yet.

  36. Hi again, do you know who the artist was of the pansies by the yard??

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hi Annette, I tried to go to your blog and write you. The yardlong is a oil on canvas and is from the late 19Th century. You can might have luck at a flea market if your looking for one. But you can also go to Ebay. Under oil paintings then florals. I wish you luck they are out there. Julian

  38. Hi Julian, its nice to meet you. I don't have a blog - I am new at this - I accidently came across your blog and saw this pansy print you found - I first saw this print on canvas in a catalog and started searching for it - it was so weird when you had a photo on you blogsite -I wanted to know who the artist was if you knew, if it was signed or if the seller knew who painted this Pansy Print. Could you give me the name of the seller and a contact number -and what the measurements were? I hope you can answer my questions - OH how expensive was it?

  39. Hi Annette, The oil painting is 36 inches long. Im have not seen a signuture on it but it is dated 1892 on the back of the frame. A lot of thease paintings and water colors were painted by different people at that time as a hobby. This painting was baught at a antique mall here in Ca. near 29 Palms and it cost 79 dollars. We were just lucky that day when it comes to treasure hunting. Wish you luck on your hunt.....Julian

  40. Thank you for gettin back to me. I am in NYC and I am unfamiliar with CA. If you could please get back to me with a name of the antique mall in CA near 29 Palms (I don't know where that is) and also a phone number. I would like to call them to see if they have come across any more of the 36 inch long water colors. Thanks again, Annette

  41. Hi Annette, I was able to find the name of the Antique Mall. The shop is called Pioneer Crossing Aniques and the number is 760-228-0603. I wish you luck but your best bet would be e-bay or the flea markets close to your home......Julian

  50. After a bit of research via Health and Home Journal from 1892, the title of this is, A Yard of Pansies. This was a companion to, A Yard of Roses, which was done first.
I have framed print of the pansies. The prints were given as a souvenir with purchase of magazine copy.
Bottom left reads, V Janus. Bottom right reads, Compliments of Demorest"s Family Magazine.
